The Stonebridge group, Marcia's group, settled on this book after I maligned the Christmas in Bethel book that was on our schedule. Everyone jumped on this one because it's short and fairly well-known as a good choice.
Frankly, I was disappointed. I thought it would be better. I think I read it when Sierra was reading it, back in the day, and we agreed it was cute and funny. But now it feels kind of trite and predictable... Yes, it has a good message about the "true" meaning of Christmas, and how the mean church people mistreat the naughty Herdman children...but it was kind of annoying to listen to. It was interesting too, to note that as late as the seventies, when this was written, that Dad expected Mom to have dinner on the table, etc. It proves to be an interesting little time capsule about how times and roles have changed!
This only took an hour and a half to listen to on Libby, and it held my interest. But it was borderline annoying...so, no more! I have to find a worthy Christmas read and suggest it to the group!
